Smith undergraduates
Undergraduates are central to our research. They work in field phenotyping, experimental design, high-performance computing, and our mammalian cell culture suite. Many students start through special studies (BIO 400), STRIDE, AEMES, a paid research assistantship, or a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF). No prior experience is required. Please email Tanya with a few sentences about your interests and your course schedule. Taking BIO 336/337 Genomics is a good way to get started.
Graduates of the lab have gone on to Ph.D. programs (University College Dublin, University of Notre Dame) and to positions in the biopharmaceutical industry.
Master’s students
The lab accepts students through the Smith College M.S. in Biological Sciences program. Current projects center on lifespan evolution in bats and desert adaptation in the golden spiny mouse (Acomys russatus). Please get in touch before you apply.
Postdoctoral researchers
There are no open postdoctoral positions right now. Prospective postdocs who want to develop fellowship proposals (for example, NSF PRFB, NIH F32, or AFAR) in comparative genomics, aging biology, or conservation genomics are encouraged to email Tanya.
